Watermelon Z potency: THC, CBD and terpenes from 63 lab tests

In only 63 state lab tests, a small sample, Watermelon Z flower had a median total THC of 18.60%, with the middle half of results between 15.27% and 22.59%.1 CBD is negligible, and β-caryophyllene leads the terpenes in the 22 tests that report them, 21 of them from Nevada; Leafly names limonene as the dominant terpene.1,2

How published THC figures compare

Strain databases publish a single figure or a range: Leafly lists 24%, AllBud 25% and Weedmaps 21–28%.2,3,4 Seed sellers list up to 25% (Pyramid Seeds, Big Head Seeds) and up to 26% (Barney’s Farm’s autoflower).5,6,7 In our small lab sample, 90% of Watermelon Z flower tested below 26.91% and 19.0% reached 25% or more; the highest result was 29.18%.1

The sample splits by state: Michigan’s 38 tests had a median of 20.35% and Nevada’s 21 a median of 16.03%, and all 21 of Nevada’s tests came from one lab in 2022.1 By year, the 17 tests from 2021 had a median of 22.45% and the 39 tests from 2022 had a median of 16.03%.1 Infused products are a different thing: STIIIZY says its Watermelon Z infused flower, coated with THC-A diamonds, tests around 40% total cannabinoids, and infused flower is not part of the sample on this page (4 infused-flower results were counted separately).1,8

Limits of this data

  • Coverage is thin. Michigan (38), Nevada (21), California (1), Colorado (1), Massachusetts (1) and Utah (1) supply all 63 tests, which date from 2019 to 2024, 56 of them from 2021–2022; Oregon and Rhode Island results carry no product names and could not be matched.
  • Some labs report higher THC than others, so we publish medians and middle ranges rather than maxima. One lab supplied 33.3% of these tests, all of them from Nevada (10 labs in total), and 21 of the 24 tests that record a producer come from one producer; Michigan records none.
  • Terpene medians come from only 22 tests with individual terpene values: 21 from Nevada and 1 from Massachusetts, and 14 of Nevada’s 21 tests were run on two days in March 2022. The other 41 tests carry none, so treat the profile as indicative.
  • We matched names strictly: 232 results under near-miss names, led by "Sour Watermelon Zkittlez" (48), are excluded and counted, and duplicate certificates are removed. Washington tests count only when the strain field and the product name both name the strain; 13 Washington flower results with only a generic product name were left out.
